WHO WE ARE

We are a church community in the heart of New York City.  Our deep desire is to live as disciples who practice the Way of Jesus, for the spiritual, social, and cultural renewal of the city - and we want to invite you to do the same.

We believe someone that lives intentionally in the Way of Jesus for the Renewal of the City will have five distinct markers, which we value and celebrate:

GOSPEL - We will value, hold to, and declare the good news of what God has done in Jesus.
IDENTITY - We will understand, grow, and flourish in a new, God-given identity.
COMMUNITY - We will love deeply and radically in imaginative, formative communities.
MISSION  -  We will value what God values, and joins his restorative work in the whole world.
POWER - We will rely on and call out for the power of God's Spirit to be released in our time.

MEET OUR TEAM
WHAT WE BELIEVE

FIRST TIME?

At Church of the City we seek to integrate the best of historic Christianity with a contextualized and thoughtful approach to our faith today. Our gatherings consist of singing (both hymns and contemporary songs), the reading of scripture, receiving communion, expository preaching, and a time at the end of every gathering for response and ministry from the Holy Spirit.  We view our gatherings as an essential part of our shared spiritual formation as we seek to live the Way of Jesus together.

We gladly welcome anyone to our Sunday services.  If you are joining us this Sunday and you have any special needs or considerations which require you to contact us in advance please email us at hello@churchofthecity.com.

If you are a Christian or come from a faith-background, we have a short book written by senior pastor Jon Tyson, called Becoming a Creative Minority," which further unpacks our vision for life in the city.

If you are exploring faith for the first time, we have a free book for you entitled Why I am A Christianby John Stott, which makes a compelling case for why the Christian faith makes a life-giving difference in our world today.

CITYKIDS

We have children’s ministry at our 10:30 am and 5:00 pm service, for any children birth through 6th grade.

When entering each of our locations, find the City Kids check-in booth. Our trained and background-certified team will assist you with helping your kids find their place. City Kids seeks to help our kids live in the way of Jesus, and values them as a vital part of our church community.

If you have questions about our discipleship curriculum, food allergy concerns, or anything else please email our City Kids director, or note that information in the Kids Pre-Registration form below.

Want to serve on CityKids with us?  We need high-quality trusted volunteers.  Get started with our sign-up and vetting process by contacting our director.

TEACHING

We believe that the teaching of God’s word is to play a central role in our worship gatherings, through both the public reading of scripture, and the teaching of the word.

All of us are looking for wisdom and insight on how to navigate the complexities of our modern lives, and how to live in a way that humbly and faithfully honors God. Our preaching is designed to integrate biblical exegesis, cultural understanding, practical application and personal formation so that we learn to think, act, love and serve like Christ. We value the scriptures as the source and authority of our faith, and seek to understand and live them faithfully in our time and place.
